Who is this person?

No long post from me today after my weekend writing marathon.  I mainly want to document that my blood sugar this morning was 128.  Down 4 more points.  I'll take it.  Rome wasn't built in a day, and Leslie isn't going to reverse the clinical evidence of Type 2 and 4 years of ignoring my truth overnight.  I'm off to a good start, though.

When my eyes popped open at 4:45 this morning, I immediately jumped up to go prick my finger and check the number, eagerly anticipating the freedom that coming out of hiding from reality brings.  I'm actually excited for that doctor appointment tomorrow afternoon to discuss all this and get an official plan.  I'm willing to go to any lengths to get better, and to do whatever they suggest to bring it about. 

In the meantime, I'm omitting sugar and staying very low carb in my food choices.  Yesterday afternoon I had a headache that smacked of sugar withdrawal, but a walk in the gorgeous tease of spring we've had this weekend helped, and Vitamin I(buprofen) was NOT needed!  Last night I saw Life of Pi with some friends from AA and it was stunning.  Couldn't get through the book when I tried, but now I'm going to give it another shot. 

All in all, a great weekend, and my Monday starts with a mammogram at 7:45.  My year of Self Care continues.

  2. Good stuff! Keep going. Your body and mind will give back and thank you. I totally believe you can reverse this with diet, the right mind set and continued work.

  3. Hi Leslie! I also found what you call the "freedom that coming out of hiding from reality brings." We can delude ourselves that we're sheltering ourselves from hiding out, but it actually makes things much worse. Facing things is like basking a problem in sunshine.

  4. In general the medical world assumes that diabetics only want to control their diabetes, not get rid of it. Think about that before your appt. if you are like I am and want to NOT have it, then you need to communicate that to the medical staff, so they work with you from that perspective.

    1. Thanks Vickie - great advice. I absolutely do want to get rid of it. I'm expecting they'll tell me it's not possible, but it is my goal. At the very least I want to have no clinical evidence of it.

    2. Lots of success stories of total type 2 remission / reversal controlled by diet at Marks Daily Apple ( primal eating). Also a lot in the paleoshere too

      Same story- docs say it can't be done, people prove that with the right diet/ habits that I can be reversed/managed with good outcomes.

      Vickie has a good point. The diabetics I know in real life still eat crap food. They still show signs of chronic illness.

When I have questioned medical people including nutritionists on why they do not teach people to eat and exercise so they will not be diabetic (instead of teaching them to fall into the never ending loop of managing diabetes), they say it is because the people will never do what they need to do, so why bother.

      I repeat, the estimates are that 80% of type 2's would no longer be diabetic if they ate properly (keeping all carbs including heathy carbs like fruit in line, keeping ratio carb/fat/protein in line). So only 20% of type2's are "stuck" - the rest have a choice.

  5. Great news, Leslie! I know that you can get your blood sugar down to normal. I will be interested in hearing what the doc has to say about medication, etc., or if this can be done with diet alone. I think diet alone can put you (and me) into the normal range.

  7. Just read your weekend of writing. Since my dad had diabetes, it is something that has driven me to stick to the straight and narrow over the past few years. I love food the way you do. But I tell you it is possible to change your food choices and still enjoy them. Honest!

    1. Thanks Debby. I am hoping I can lose my taste for sweets - the ones that come from sugar and it's relatives. So that fruit becomes decadent over other stuff that shall remain nameless... Sugar just kills me.
