Just in from OOOPSville

Yesterday ended up being an almost perfect food for me, but for one ridiculous snack...I'm embarrassed to admit this, but after dinner I decided it would be a good idea to eat Pop Tarts - I had 2 frosted blueberry pop tarts which came to a shocking and definitely unworthy total of 11 points.  Good grief - it was the only variance from my otherwise good day, but a substantial one.  My 24 y/o son is living at home and has taken to eating 2 pop tarts and a banana on his way to work in the mornings - dubbing it the perfect on-the-move breakfast.  He's 6'4" and probably weighs under 165, as in bean pole-esque.  He can afford 2 pop tarts that boast a total dearth of nutrition.  I cannot.

Her first mistake (my apologies to Lyle Lovett who has a kick ass song by that same title) was to open the pantry door after dinner.  No good could come of that given that there is no fruit or yogurt in the pantry.  Those would be the only things I'd eat after dinner if I was seriously following my food plan.  Once I saw the pop tarts, which I don't even particularly like, my mind and spirit perked up like a lost puppy catching a glimpse of home.  I don't know why other than there was no other junky sugary products on hand.  Here was a fix I didn't expect to find.

Reporting this reminds me that one of the reasons I was tired of blogging was having to report the same kind of crap like this over and over.  People are nice and say the right things like "it's over, let it go" along with plenty of other kind encouragement and support.  But if I'm sick of hearing myself say the same things ad nauseum, how must any reader feel?  I'm not asking for bloggy love and support - I'm just being honest about how being honest about my "episodes" makes me feel.  And I can say honestly that the pop tarts were far from a delightful confection - they were just dumb pop tarts - sweet, sugary, white flour laden disappointing pseudo food stuff that didn't taste that good, didn't satisfy me, and definitely didn't fill any hole in my soul.

Despite my hating to report a TILT, it feels good to have a place to leave this stuff.  It's nice being back amid the blogs and bloggers, and so nice to read friendly comments.  Have a great day, everyone.

  1. Other than I can't abide Pop Tarts, I have had the "gee, it's there, I shall eat it for no reason than it's there..." Right now, there are some Girl Scout Cookies that I would feed to the dog if they didn't have chocolate on them. So I fed them to Husband instead. :D

You'll get there, Just stay outta the pantry after dinner! ;)

  2. Never did like the sugar-coated ones. Loved the old 'plain' strawberry ones, toasted, with some melted margarine on hand. BUT I DIGRESS. I can only offer up what works for me. I keep Hershey's Milk Chocolate Nuggets™ on hand. They are 45 calories each. After dinner, I take one, un-wrap it, and bite slivers off, one at a time, and then proceed to manuever it to the roof of my mouth, close my eyes, and slowly suck on that tiny sliver of chocolate. When it's fully melted, I repeat with another sliver. I can make that 45 calories last several minutes; and my sugar/chocolate craving is totally satisfied because of HOW I eat it.

Might want to give it a whirl. ;)

  3. We alllllllllllll have Pop-Tart-poppin' moments. And we all regret it later. And most of us beat ourselves up over it, too, because we know what we just did (and we didn't really even enjoy it). But...tomorrow is another day. One voluntary slip-up shouldn't bring the whole house of cards down. Shrug it off, hide those Pop Tarts, and get a move on doing the good stuff again. :)

  6. started to write a comment and then lost it. Will try to recreate. First , brown sugar cinnamon poptarts toasted WITH butter were my thing (have not had in years-- just can't go there again".

So, About feeling tired of going through the cycle of slips. You have much more time and experience working the 12 steps than I do, but I just read part of the AA big book yesterday ( the first few pages of chapter 3-by accident .I realized after a while I had marked my place wrong and was a few chapters ahead. But what I read is just about this..the cycles we go through ..do good, slip, do bad, do better, etc etc...Just a thought. Also, I've been getting repeated messages from the Universe in the form of meditations, movie lines, conversations that basically says the same thing: If you want to hear God laugh, say YOUR plans out loud. Just passing it along..thanks for your comment today, I haven't had many comments lately and felt weird about it...

  7. Oh my dear kindred bloggin soul - I too succumbed to the son's poptarts recently. I think it was the end of last week, or maybe the week before. One binge blurs into the next over time. My teen has the chocolate fudge variety. Funny how they taste so much better in my imagination yet I keep eating until both of the offending pastries are gone, leaving nothing but crumbs and remorse. If only I could rid my house of all foods that I should not eat or would overeat. Sigh.

  8. I think it's important to blog about our tilts because perhaps we'll get so sick of reporting them we won't tilt anymore (wishful thinking?). Actually, I do think it helps though by getting us to realize the why's and just how much it didn't really satisfy. Next time you're going for a tilt think - POP TART - yuck :)

  9. I could have written this post! Especially the part about how your spirits perked up when you saw the Pop Tarts. Since treats really do brighten our mood (momentarily), it's just no wonder we give in to them. I am still trying to have a mindset that the slips are a part of the process.

    How is Points Plus going?

  10. "Here was a fix I didn't expect to find."

So you didn't know he was eating banana and pop tart breakfasts until you asked household how pop tarts landed in your pantry?
