As promised, a short post from me today. First - I'm 3 days sugar free and now 4 days doing my rendition of Paleo. My rendition is about to be tweaked, because my book came yesterday, only I didn't see it until my son brought it upstairs having found it tucked between front door and storm door. Today my goofing off at work will consist of peeks into its contents!
Last night I really wanted something sweet, which means I wanted to overload my body with sugar laden sh*t. I never wanted a civilized glass of wine with dinner, and I never have wanted a cookie. I don't even bother to pretend to myself that "this time will be different". What I did instead of getting into cookies that one of my sons brought home was I had a small 1.5 oz bag of deluxe lightly salted mixed nuts from CVS. They were so good, and if I'd had another bag, I know I would have eaten it. Note to self: buy one bag a day - there's a CVS around the corner from my job so it's easy.
Already my energy level is up and brain fog is down. One thing I think I said yesterday is I'm going to have to be vigilant about food prep (not a problem for me - I even do that when I'm sucking wind in the "on plan" department), especially breakfast stuff. I see recipes for "egg cupcakes", frittatas, etc. I'm going to do a bunch of that stuff this weekend so I'm good to go next week.
And I'm going to read the book. Learn more. Contact guru Helen if I have a question about something. And stay sugar free no matter what. If I have to eat 3 apples and 3 bananas to not eat refined sugar, I'm doing it. Hopefully it won't come to that. So have a good weekend everyone.
I had eggs for breakfast today, coincidentally, and was thinking how they just don't satisfy me the way other foods do. I wonder how much of that is in my head not my belly. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this - and Helen has a wealth of knowledge, so you've got the right "go-to" person for help!
ReplyDeleteI gladly accept your offer to be my knitting sponsor. :) :) :) Expect stupid questions on a regular basis.
You are making me wonder if I eat Paleo (or nearly) and don't know it. I eat mostly whole foods. I eat very little processed. The processed I do eat is salsa (2T on my omelet each morning) and mustard and salad dressing (with no sugar) and a few other things like that.
ReplyDeletedo you suppose there is also a correlation between your clean days and the fact you are blogging again?
ReplyDeleteHi Vickie - It sounds like you are probably eating close to Paleo. Someone commented to me that she eats "Paleo-ish". Love that.
DeleteYes - there is definitely a correlation between my blogging and doing well. When I do well I want to write about it. When I write and others comment, it makes me want to do well. When I don't post for more than 5 or 6 days, odds are I'm struggling.
I just ran across my beautiful watermelon bag that I won from you, was it last year or two years ago? Looking forward to carrying it again this spring.
ReplyDeletePistachios (still in their shell) are my Nut of Choise. And CVS sells them in small bags. Still being in their shell means it takes me some time to eat them. And yes, I buy them one bag at a time, as well.
Just wanted to check in to say hi. It means a lot to me that you're following my blog (you're the only one so far) lol
ReplyDeleteI feel I do so much better with my eating if I stay away from sweets and high carb. So many trigger foods.
Take care, have a great day!
Good going, Leslie. I'm about a week into a new approach (17 Day) and am beginning to feel released from the continual craving for sugar and bread things. Yay! I'm pulling for you.
ReplyDeleteWay to go. Keep going.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to second Roxie's pistachio in shells recommendation. One serving is a lot of nuts and it takes a good while to get the shells off. Nuts are something that are easy for me to overeat but the last time I went to BJ's I bought the huge 3 lb. bag of pistachios and have not had one problem with portioning out a serving and enjoying it. I think something about having to shell them makes me slow down and enjoy them more so I'm completely satisfied with that one portion.
ReplyDeleteYou will be amazed at how little you want sugary things a week or so into the diet. BTW, some Paleo people think it's OK to eat plain greek yogurt and I've had that with berries on top a few times when I craved something creamy and sweet.
Contact me anytime you need to!
my youngest has had to increase her sodium intake, so I have been reading peanut and mixed nut labels. Previously we had bought raw/no salt added tree nuts and dry roasted/no salt added peanuts. Now buying nuts with sodium for her. Hence the label reading. Was sort of shocked to find many have MSG. but mostly writing to warn you many have SUGAR in the seasoning mix. Actually straight sugar and other forms of sugar too.
