A Great Sadness

I just got a comment this morning to tell me that one of my favorite bloggers, Bethany McDonald of The Great Reduction, passed away last night from a sudden heart attack. She had a serious cardiac condition for which she'd been trying fervently to lose weight. She was only 33 years old, with 2 small children.

Of course I didn't really know her, but came to love and appreciate her wonderful sense of humor and her deep humanity. Just like all of us, she was fighting the good fight to be as healthy and fit as possible. She was very real when she wrote of her struggles, frustrations and victories.

There isn't anything more I can say. Please pray for her and for her family as they endeavor to process and cope with this immense tragedy. And visit her blog if you haven't already and read through her archive to get a sense of what a lovely and kind woman she was. Her family would surely appreciate any comments from her readers.

  1. This made me SO sad this morning also, Leslie. I posted something similar. Gosh, I just cannot believe it. She was one of my early readers and I know how much she adored her boys. What a beautiful person she was.

  8. I'm so sorry you lost a friend.
I went to her site, and after reading of her struggle that is so similar to mine (eating right but not losing) I know I would have liked her.
I will pray for her family.

  11. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that you lost a friend. And that she lost the struggle we are all fighting. It gives one pause, doesn't it?

So sad. I have prayed for her family and am heading over to visit her blog now.

    My sympathies.

  13. this is the second blogger that I know that died from conditions which were made much worse by their weight.

Both times - someone posted a comment with the news - otherwise we would not have known.

I have another blogger that was NOT in good health, that was also very young with two small children, that now has not posted in over a year. I suspect that something happened to her - but will probably never know.

It is heart breaking, I agree. And I was headed for such severe weight complications that I wonder how close I was too.

  14. Hi Leslie,

I came over to meet you because Lisa gave you such a great plug in her blog. I'm so sorry to hear about your blogger friend. That is truly tragic, and I will say a prayer for her family.

We are of similar age, although I was a later-in-life mom and my only child is still in high school. Lifelong battle with my weight. Can always give and use more encouragement. Let's go!
