Mellow Monday

I had a good weekend on the journey-to-lean front and found myself down 2 pounds on the scale this morning!  My next official weigh in that I'll post is Friday.  I have a lot of stuff going on this week in the medical arena, including a mammogram and a doctor visit for a pesky concern.  My obvious hope is that I will report after the fact that all is well and have no reason for further for concern or follow up.  I'm not really worried or anything but know that if I don't address things pretty quickly, I start to obsess and ruminate and drive myself CRAZY.  Obsession and rumination are not on the to-do list for living serenely!  Sometimes being an adult and taking care of myself is annoying.

In lieu of the gym I'm going to take the dog for a nice long walk this afternoon, since the weather is beautiful and moderate today!  Finally.  By tomorrow we're supposedly climbing back into the 90s, but the humidity is supposed to stay low, so that should help.

I mentioned Madmen yesterday and how excited I was to see the 4th season premiere last night.  Would you believe I freaking fell asleep after the opening music and graphics.  I "came to" around 10:20 and saw certain familiar characters but just couldn't summon the ooomph to sit up and watch.  DAMN!  Someone who commented today on my yesterday's post asked what I thought of the episode.   ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, that's what I thought, dammit.  I'm going to try and watch it on line, or it will probably rebroadcast this week sometime.  No wonder my family makes merciless fun of me about my nodding off tendencies...Mark said several times last week when I was loudly anticipating this show, "You know you'll sleep through it, Mom".  "No way, not for this!" I said with serious certainty.  I absolutely hate when he's right!

Okay - here are a couple questions for you food-oriented bloggers:  !) What is the very favorite appliance (or food prep aid) you use for cooking?  and, 2)  Is there another appliance out there you're dying to have?

That's it on a slow Monday.  Have a good one!

My favorite appliance is the hand chopper...because I'm lazy. The appliance I'm dying to have is the professional chef robot that lives with me, doesn't speak or make any annoying noises, and cooks gourment calorie free meals for me.

By the way your 2 lb loss somehow managed to seep it's way through the computer onto my thighs....

  2. Down 2--NICE. It's so frustrating to fall asleep for something you really wanted to see. I've done it before too. Thank goodness for reruns and Internet episodes.
Favorite kitchen appliance--my stovetop grill pan. Coveted appliance--mango seeder.

  3. I hate falling asleep. I was just doing that now during my prime blogging time. Gambitdanglia!

My favorite appliance is currently a coffee bean grinder that we use to pulverize Chickadee's crackers, granola, etc. I'm dying to have a bullet for the same purposes so I don't have to wash out the same thing all the time.

  4. I have recorded it but not watched yet and I also struggle to stay awake in front of the TV at night. I used to resort to eating but now that is out! I am sure they rerun those several times.

I hope all goes well with the medical stuff.

  5. I fall asleep, too. Not as badly these days, but the minute I sat down, I'd be nodding off.

    Marvelous - down 2! Yay!

The next gadget/kitchen thing I'm coveting are silicone baking mats.

Good luck with your medical stuff. I hear you on that front, too.

  6. Well done on the loss!
My favourite appliance is my 'health grill' (not actually a George Forman grill) for grilling vegetables.Or maybe my slow cooker. Or my food processor. Or.... I guess it depends which meal one of them most recently made easy and delicious! The one I really want (but can't get because - well, its pretty self-explanatory -) is an ice-cream maker.
Hope the medical stuff goes OK

  7. Pretty much anything I want to watch that doesn't start at 8 pm gets recorded at my house.

Favorite appliance is my food processor. I bought a Kitchen Aid one that has a smaller bowl that sits inside the big bowl so if I only want to chop a small onion, the little bowl is what gets dirty. I love it and use it almost on a daily basis!

Nothing I'm dying to have but every time I go to BJs and buy a rotisserie chicken I think about how much money I could have saved if I'd just bought one of those countertop Rotisseries. Of course the whole problem is that I don't have enough countertop.

  8. "Sometimes being an adult and taking care of myself is annoying." Very well said! I'm going to remember that one and quote it often.

Good job on the two pound drop.

My Kitchen Aid mixer with the 6 qt. bowl that hoists into place with a crank is my favorite appliance. I don't want another appliance, I just want a chef.

  9. Right now, in the heat wave, it's gotta be my new VitaMix blender we got at Costco. Love it! I can make sugar-free ice cream, using sweeteners, some frozen milk cubes, some frozen fruit... yummo!

Congratulations on another two pounds GONE!

Favorite appliance--well, now that I've discovered banana "ice cream" from frozen bananas whirled in the food processor--My favorite is the food processor. :D I want to get that ketchen aid one with the little bowl. I do have a mini sized one that is awesome, so I know that I'd use the kitchen aid one. wahoo. sounds like a birthday present. :D

I have the mixer Genie mentioned--and it's wonderful. but now that the cookie factory that was once located in my kitchen has gone out of business due to lack of clientele (me), the food processor wins.

  11. Congrats on the two pound loss! Keep the momentum going.

Hope all the medical stuff goes well and you get the outcome you are hoping for.

Kitchen appliances and gadgets are things I love! Oh to pick a favorite is like asking which child is a favorite, I just can't do it!

Love the crock pot, mini food chopper, Blend Tec blender, garlic press, chef knife-use it every day, flexible cutting boards, deep sided skillets and so on....

I want a Kitchen Aid mixer but have no counter space for it, a new rice cooker that has a brown rice setting and a non stick grill pan.

  12. I'd have to say my crock pot in the winter and little hand mixer otherwise. I have a counter mixer I never use! Here's hoping your medical issues are nothing to worry about. For years I avoided the doctor but now I have to go regularly for my prescriptions (synthroid and toprol XL).

  13. I do use food processor quite a bit. Actually I should say my youngest uses food processor quite a bit - she makes a batch of veggie burgers most every week.

We use the chopping/puree feature much more than the slicing. The slicing I still do mostly by hand.

    Hi Leslie!

My food processor has to be my favorite kitchen appliance - I use it several times a week.

What I would love though is a gas stove with convection oven! I have an electric stove and while it works well, I hate it and during the summer try to avoid it as much as possible!

    Happy hump day!
