Let me be brief - please!

I'm going to be atypically brief today. Finally, you all are thinking! Yesterday turned out busier than I expected, with the Gyn app't and trip to grocery store after. Not smart. Once home, I ended up with ice on the right knee and a heating pad on my right cheek (the one on which I sit, not chew) from achy tiredness. Better today on both counts.

I did not make a cake for the birthday man. I did get him the last box of Trefoils (now called Shortbread) Girl Scout cookies my local scout was pedling. They are his favorite and so also his birthday dessert. I expect they will last him a week. I would inhale a sleeve in 30 minutes. He'll have 1 or 2 a day...WTF? Why bother? They aren't decadent enough to trip me up, so they're safe in the house, though come to think of it, I have no idea where he put them. He's finally learning, smile.

The new Gyn was fine - not warm and fuzzy, but not cold. She cracked a smile at a couple of my excrutiatingly funny remarks, so I'm in it for the duration with her. My luck, she'll decide to retire or move on in the coming months. There was a ridiculous amount of walking at that office complex that helped jack up my right hip. Everything is just out of alignment, and it doesn't take much to cause a new ache. Even my left hand is feeling bruised from using the cane! Shows how much I'm leaning on it, so I'm trying to modify that a bit.

I'm spending a lot of time envisioning myself walking the loop at my beloved Ridley Creek State Park. In fact, just walking freely is a good visualization that calms me and motivates me to be sane and prudent and patient with the whole process. I'm getting my hair miraculously de-grayed today as I'm taking on a monochromatic look that people with my coloring get when the hair "lightens". That will be my big outing. A gal can't get her knee scoped with gray roots now, can she? I look old enough as I lumber along with a cane and a limp. Egads - what a vision!

My food was great yesterday until after dinner. I got into extra after dinner snacking that I regret today. Not terrible. But unnecessary. I thought about it before I indulged. I wasn't hungry. But I had an extra cup of yogurt, a SFNF pudding. And a string cheese. Just dumb. I don't want to do that today. The urge will come, but I'm going to try and wait it out and not run away from myself, even a little bit. Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck! Glad you find a decent gyn with the added bonus of having a sense of humor - always good in a doc, I think.

I'm with you - I do not know from what planet those people come from who can dole out little bits of goodness over days and days. I want it all NOW! I work with a woman who keeps a package of peanut M and Ms in her desk drawer and she eats THREE a day. Freak! Seriously, I admire her restraint - although I don't know if she's restraining at all, or just flat not interested in any more. Whatever it is, I wish I had it.

Anyways, Leslie, have a wonderful day.

  2. You're lucky to find a healthcare professional, let alone a gynae, with a sense of humour (only kidding, guys!)

Maybe sarcasm really *is* the lowest form of wit... ;o)

I regularly buy Craig peanut M&Ms simply because it's reassuring to know he has to demolish a 250g/half-pound bag in less than 10 minutes... With every other treat, he'll eat slowly and in moderation. Does that make me a bad person?!? :o)

  3. That's *my* sarcasm, btw... I wonder if a deadpan expression makes them believe that I mean what I say?! I'm a bit worried now... :o(

  5. I hope you get crutches my dear. Soon. There is no sense damaging your knee, hip and even hand. Please?

I am exactly the same with sweets. Don't leave them around me or they'll be gone. TODAY.

    *hug*

  6. I like that you realized that your snacking was not terrible, even if it was unnecesary. Realizations like that are key to stopping the habit!

  7. Good luck with the hip and knee. I hate having those nagging pains (Ive one in my hip at the moment). Your hair will look lovely and I had to laugh at the already looking old with the cane bit. lol.......Good luck with the eating today and trust me.....your little "extra" eating was nothing compared to my "horrific" binge today....

  8. Hi all you've posted already - just back from the hairdresser, and the comments about crutches hit me like a shot between the eyes! I have crutches from my last surgery, right in the den! I tried them, and they work so much better than the cane for the level of pain I'm having. Thanks so much!

  9. I find most doctors not to have a sense of humor!

I've eaten a whole sleeve of thin mints in one sitting - and I wonder how I got fat?! :D

Good luck at the hair appointment!

  13. I wanna see a pic, too. I've been thinking and thinking, debating whether or not to do the color thing and get rid of my increasing gray streaks.

I cracked up over "Egads - what a vision!"

  14. I'm fixing to use that Natural Instincts, by Clairol? It's not permanent and washes out in 28 days. I think that means the chemicals aren't as harsh, and my hair is soooo thin from the PCOS, that I can't use anything too harsh. And good for you for not making that cake! :)

  15. "He'll have 1 or 2 a day...WTF? Why bother?"

Because then they actually last a while (it's not like you can get Girl Scout cookies just anytime), you don't feel like crap after eating way too many, and there's no regret.

  16. I am picturing you with all kinds of day glow orange cones, crime scene tape, saw horses with DO NOT ENTER signs, etc all blocking the door to your kitchen.

brushing your teeth, turning out kitchen light, thermos of hot tea, lots of water can help.

I don't know if you have ever seen this. I thought of you immediately, because I am always copying your AA sayings on my side bar.

PS - It popped up when I was looking for a crutch rental store in my town. How the search engine equated the two, I don't know.

  19. I think it's funny that your husband quietly hid the cookies. Less for you but, more importantly, more for him. Smart man.
